We are all so saddened by the unexpected passing of Jennie Lee Kalie. She and John served our club in many different ways. John and Jennie Lee served as our Nominating Committee for a couple of years. In fact Jennie Lee was the one who
asked me if I would run for President of the club. They both worked diligently with ATLAS to help get us this wonderful Senior Center. They both were able to obtain Ice Cream for us several times in the summer months each year, and you
know how much we all enjoy Ice Cream in any form. We are thankful for all the ways the Kalies served. Please keep John in your prayers.
I’m grateful for all our members who attended our General Meeting in June. We had 100 in attendance with three excellent speakers. Thanks to Barbara Brent who invited Valerie M.A. Nicholas, Volunteer Services Coordinator for Laurel Regional Hospital, who shared the Hospital’s need for more volunteers. Thanks To Tom Dernoga for arranging Delegate Jolene Ivey from District 47 to tell us about the accomplishments of the General Assembly this pass session with respect to matters affecting senior citizens. Our third speaker Karen Straughn, who serves as attorney with the Consumer Affairs Division of the Office of the Attorney General, spoke on scams and how to recognize a scam and protect against being a victim of one. Everyone seemed to enjoy all three speakers.
We welcome two new members Shelia Spillman and Nancy Thiessen. We are glad that Nan Tripp and Carol Cook have returned from vacationing in
Alaska. Carol injured her ankle and is in a lot of pain- she is waiting to get to her doctor. Keep Carol in your prayers.
Its hard to believe our 2014 year is half over. We thank Eileen Pastore , Gay MaGruder, and Carol Kosydar for providing pies and cakes.
