The Laurel Senior Friendship Club met on July 9, 2014, at the Laurel-Beltsville
Senior Activity Center. Vice President Tom Dernoga opened the meeting at 10:30 a.m.; and Chaplain Pauline Pivowar offered a prayer. We followed with the Pledge of Allegiance and our Choir gave us “The Star Spangled Banner”, “In the Good Old Summer Time”, and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Betty Mannas provided a report on our treasury. She had received correspondence thanking us for the coupons Lorraine Miller is collecting.
The coupons go to our overseas troops and go a long way in supporting
our military and their families.
Tom introduced Kofi Impraim, new Director of the Center, and Sharon Williams, new Facility Manager. They are both looking forward to working with us and grateful to LSFC for the part we played in having this building created.
Attendance was 90 individuals. Our greeters were Mary Jane Bodner and Lois Knabel. The 50/50 raffle resulted in $54 for the Treasury and $27 each for Mary Hooper and Dorothy Gilbert. Our raffles brought in $51.
Carol Kosydar reported that last month her committee sent 32 cards; made 26
calls; made two visits; gave three gifts; attended two viewings; loaned two
wheelchairs out; and had one new combination walker/transport chair donated.
She asked us to remember Nan in our prayers and welcomed Leonard Becraft
Joe Skladany reported on the next trip to the Totem Pole Playhouse. Joe said the Delaware casino trip in August is cancelled. Eight tickets are still available for the Star Spangled Banner celebration in September. The Niagara Falls, Mt Vernon, and the BSO trips follow.
Jack Wittmann presided over a brief 4th of July quiz, which left us all a tiny bit
smarter. Pauline Pivowar gave the benediction; and we adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
