LAUREL SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB’S
GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
May 13, 2015
Joyce Weir, Secretary
The Laurel Senior Friendship Club met on May 13, 2015, at the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center for our annual 88+ Birthday Party. 3rd Vice President
Margaret Field opened the meeting at 10:30 a.m. Chaplain Eileen Pastore offered a prayer. We followed with the Pledge of Allegiance; and our Choir gave
us “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “Blue Skies”, and “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You”.
Wanda Bell, Travel Committee Chair, reported that our next trip is to Hershey PA. She also said that a Train Trip to New Freedom, PA is coming up soon. The
Pennsylvania Opry honoring Elvis, the Grand Canyon, PA trip, the Rainbow Theater, Paradise, PA trip, the New England/Nova Scotia cruise, and the Sight
& Sound Theater in Pennsylvania are also planned. Wanda said all of these trips have room for more people. Wanda also mentioned that the Travel Committee
will have the raffle drawing for the Elvis trip in July.
The 50/50 raffle resulted in $70 for the Treasury and $23 each to Howie Fenton, Valerie Brown, and Christine Taylor. “Esther’s Treasures” raffles brought in
$33. Attendance was 135 individuals.
Our greeters were Margaret Barker and Kay Miller. President Ron Mayhugh told us this meeting is the highlight of the year. The celebration of our members who have served the Club over the years is very special to us. He welcomed all of our honorees and led us in singing “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”.
Our Entertainment Chair, Jack Wittmann, introduced Craig Satchell the “Music man of Philadelphia” who entertained us with some toe-tapping lively music
including one very old favorite from the “Roaring Twenties”. Chaplain Eileen Pastore gave the benediction. Honorees Ann Peterson and Giles Mills Sr., our two eldest members, cut the birthday cake. We then all enjoyed a delicious
lunch catered by Bill Miles.
