The Laurel Senior Friendship Club met on December 14, 2016, for our annual Christmas party at the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center. President Ron Mayhugh opened the meeting at 10:30am. Chaplain Dominic Giachino offered a prayer. We followed with the Pledge of Allegiance. Ron expressed his appreciation for our support to him in his years as President. Our Choir gave us “America the Beautiful”, “Go Tell it on the Mountain” and “Joy to the World”.
Gail Johnson, our Treasurer provided a financial report. She announced we will have an audit late next month; and thanked the Chairs and the Executive Committee for being so supportive this year.
Ron announced attendance of 145 Individuals. He thanked our greeters, Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus, (whose secret identity was, Jeane and Dominic Giachino).
Esther’s Treasures bought in $150. Way to go Esther, good work!! The 50/50 Raffle resulted in $74 for the Treasury and $37 each to Barbara Johnston and Phyllis
An effort by Barbara Brent for us to give something to our members was initiated. When you sign the membership book you will receive a free raffle ticket and you could
end up a $25 winner. The four winners of the $25 gift cards this time were Hazel Patterson, Jewell Warden, Winnie Morgans, and Pat ____________(sorry did not get
the last name).
A proposed change to our Constitution, regarding signing checks was distributed and will be voted on at next month’s meeting.
Nan Tripp welcomed new members and honored Ron for his years of service to our Club. He received a standing ovation, a commemorative clock, and his favorite restaurant gift cards.
Jack Wittmann introduced our perennial favorites, The New Dimension Singers, with their beautiful Christmas program. We enjoyed the Decorating Committee’s lovely combination of white tablecloths and red poinsettias. The poinsettias were purchased
from the Fehr Nursery in Burtonsville and given to one member at each table.
Dominic gave the benediction; and we adjourned at 12:05 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Joyce W
